Ecological Guide of Moliço
Zostera marina was once one of the most important species in the Moliço of Ria de Aveiro, Portugal. Moliço is a natural fertilizer made from various species of seagrasses and macroalgae, valued for its rich iodine and nitrogen content. Its species composition varies along the coastal lagoon, reflecting the strong natural environmental gradients of the system.
This catalogue presents species that have been historically and recently documented in the system, and which may appear in the moliço mixtures found across Ria de Aveiro.

This catalogue is a result of the MSc Thesis in Applied Marine Biology from the Biology Department of the University of Aveiro by Ana Luisa Cunha entitled "Mobilização de dados históricos e conhecimento local para a caracterização ecológica do Moliço da Ria de Aveiro (2025)", in collaboration with Dr. Lísia Lopes from the Herbarium of the University of Aveiro and Dr. Heliana Teixeira from CESAM, both at the Department of Biology, University of Aveiro.
