RIA DE AVEIRO

CREPIDULA PROJECT

The intertidal banks of Ria de Aveiro Nature 2000 site cover an area up to 2880 ha, as shown in the map. These habitats host enormous biodiversity and ensure many of the ecosystem services provided by this coastal lagoon. But such richness and abundance also attract several human activities that put the natural system under distinct pressures. Invasive alien species are one of them.

The CREPIDULA project, funded by CESAM, will contribute to understand the invasion process and current stage of the American slipper limpet Crepidula fornicata (Linnaeus, 1758) in the Ria de Aveiro coastal lagoon, located in the Atlantic North West coast of Portugal.
